Wisdom Tips from Bestselling authors

The following notes were compiled in our workshops for those in job and career transition. A typical class consists of 20 managers and leaders in eight evening sessions of three hours each. The first three sessions focus on the here and now stuff: Resume, cover letter, career directions, and various supplementary documents for job search. It is customary nowadays to spend the equivalent of one three hour session describing the benefits of a powerful online presence, and how to track and grow hits to various online profiles. The fourth lesson addresses overcoming a lack of self-belief, real or imaginary blocks, and providing tools for instant attitude adjustment. We used to start with this session, but found that job seekers are inclined to be more receptive to behavioral change, following tangible success on their documents and creation of various online profiles.

The fifth and sixth lessons address personal effectiveness, goal management, self-confidence, and interview preparation. During these sessions separated by a one week interval, students brush up their knowledge and skills in order to make the best possible presentation in mock interviews.

Students created one paragraph summaries of best sellers and a standardized presentation on various books. We termed them "wisdom nuggets". These nuggets are now being offered to a wider audience of job seekers, so they too can benefit from a quick brush up of knowledge and best practices in various competencies and soft skills.

We believe this material should affect how candidates present their experience in their resume. There are tips on structure and content of best practices for various roles, responsibilities and achievements. Of course, the learning is most powerful in the interview stage, where it can boost confidence, and enable candidates to take a higher level perspective of a scenario.

Nearly 600 mini-articles were generated over a six month period by the classes. We share an initial 150 with job seekers. Write and tell us if this content proved helpful to you.
